MonoWheel Painting Done!

I finished up the painting on Saturday then put it in a cool old style frame.  I think that adds a bit to the image.  I'd love to mess around with making or modifying frames to have more of a steampunk feel.  I learned a lot from this project, things that I'd like to try on my next piece.  Felt rusty with the oils but it was fun.

I really wanted to keep this one when it was finished and framed and sitting there on my desk :)

So much great material here!

More Monowheel Painting: W.I.P.

Did some more painting of the Rivet War Monowheel.  I'm having fun trying some different techniques.  I really need to buy some new brushes and some better paints.

Mono-Wheel Under Painting for Oils

I'm doing an oil painting of the mono-wheel design.  I took a smaller sketch, grided it up and transfered that onto a board.  It's about 11x14.  I'm going to try and pull off my best "Ashley Wood" style.  Looking for rough and gritty.  I haven't done oils in maybe a year, so it'll be interesting.  Wish me luck :)

Commission for the holidays

I just finished up a commission that I had a ton of fun painting.  It's a surprise holiday gift for a photographer.  I was really lucky when approached for the commission because I was allowed to just do whatever.  It's really a great feeling when someone is a fan of your work and entrusts you to make a gift for a loved one.  The feeling is really energizing and I believe comes through in the piece.

Here I wanted to capture a war time photographer documenting a column of troops marching off to war.  I tried to focus on the photographer with just a hint of what is was that he was taking a picture of.  And of course it's an old style rivet camera and gear.

Insignia

I did some rough sketches of some insignia. This should help with making toys look cooler as well as any paintings. I'm trying to fill out the world a little more. I need to make a finalized map :)

Ride out Cavalry!

I did some fun design sketches this weekend. My last few sketches have been a little hi-tech so I'm pushing back toward the WWI/steampunkish feel. I REALLY need to give rivets a cavalry unit and heavy infantry unit. So many years working on RTS games, I just can't think any other way :) So I thought Rivets on little Rivet horses would be super cool but a friend suggested instead something more mechanical. Maybe the allies have horses and the blight use the mono-wheel? And heavy infantry came from looking at old school diving suits. Let me know what you think.

Rivet Grunts on Patrol

Rivet Wars on Spanky Stoke!

John over at SpankyStokes.com did a great write up for Rivet Wars.  I think of his site as one of the premiere sites for toys and art so it is really exciting to see Rivet Wars mentioned.  He also calls out the new grunt 2-packs that went on sale.  Thanks Spanky Stokes!

Water Coloring

I started laying in some color on these drawings.  I'm having a lot of fun with these so far.  Doing some complimentary color stuff.  Also trying to use some rich purples and blues in the shadows.  Watercolors are so forgiving in the way you can blend pure pigments.  Some people can't stand them but I just find doing watercolors so much fun.  Hopefully just one more pass on these guys.

Top Secret Designs Uncovered!

While searching through a pile of recently discovered Rivet documents I came across what appear to be secret plans for two extremely powerful combat suits.  One looks to be an armored walking suit while the other is a helicopter backpack.  Hopefully we'll see the production versions of these soon.  And remember...Get in the fight!

Grunt 2-Packs are coming.

I might give these away to trick or treaters instead of candy!  Look at all those little guys.  These boys aren't ready for frontline duty yet, but once they get done with basic training they'll be wrapped up and ready to ship out.  I'm going to sell them as two to a package for $15.  And they come in any color you want as long as it's green :)

Stat Card Sketches

If you ordered a Vert Tank back when I first started making the Rivet toys then you received a little sketch on the back of the stats card.  I scanned some of them before sending them out and I thought you all might like to see some of them.  Some of these little drawings will surely be used as the starting point for future toys or paintings.  It was really fun to do these.  I really wanted to give each person their own little personal piece of art.

Vert Tank Walker by Adam Pratt

Awesome custom vert walker by Adam Pratt.
Adam Pratt Art

"The Walker Variant of the Vert Tank was first produced by troops in the Tungascar Highlands.  Because of the extremely rocky terrain the Vert Tanks, with their tracks, were not mobile enough to allow the hussars to run patrols of the caves in this mountainous region.  A one Corporel Adoma Pratteun commandeered two reclaimed leg units from a destroyed Blighter Quad Tank and together with his mechanicus unit managed to get a prototype working in less than a week.  The prototype soon proved its value by providing heavy fire support to the mountain patrol units.  Currently there are two dozen or so vert walker variants in use in the region.  There is now talk of re-tooling a vert tank factorie to produce a vert walker from the ground up."  -  Praniscus Palkonik, 23rd regimental historian

New York Comic Con 2011

Wow!  My first New York Comic Con is finished.  It was a great time.

Got to meet George from Toybreak, Matt of Onell Toys, Steve of Sketchbot, and The Sucklord!  Also met up with Darrin, Jared, Connor, Roger, Steve and so many others.  I got my toys signed by Joe Ledbetter and a print signed by Geoff Darrow of Hard Boiled fame!  I met Ben Caldwell and Eric Canete, two artists whose work I really admire.

I was also shocked at how many people were like, "hey, so you're that rivet wars guy!"  It was amazing how supportive people were and encouraging.  I handed out, sold and traded a lot of toys and gave George his XL Rivet shirt :)  So much fun and good will going around.  Lots of people who just love making cool stuff and that's what it's all about.  Such an inspiring weekend.

Making shirts for the show.

I am in the "factory" now making an exclusive drop of taxicab yellow grunts for the 2011 New York Comic-Con.  I'll be walking around the show Friday and Saturday.  Any grunts that I don't sell or trade at the show will be put up on the site for those that didn't make it to the show or couldn't find me :)  Hope to see you there!
